Lifestyle brand UGG took over Sunset Boulevard’s Chateau Marmont to celebrate their 40th Anniversary. Rocking Classic Mini 40:40:40 Boots in Sand, UK supermodel Adwoa Aboah and streetwear designer Heron Preston hosted future icons Vanessa Hudgens, Dua Lipa, Luka Sabbat, Teyana Taylor, Justine Skye, 13 Reason Why’s Anne Winters, musician & activist Shaun Ross, Who What Wear’s Editor-In-Chief Kat Collings and Z Nation’s Lydia Hearst who smiled for photographers walking down the hotel’s long cobblestone driveway transformed into an underwater-themed red carpet by artist Gianni Lee. The party flowed from Bungalow One out back to the hotel’s pool with guests mingling to Virgil Abloh-approved sister DJ duo SimiHaze, A$AP Mob’s Cozy Boys and opening band Cherry Glazerr while enjoying pineapple-rosemary tequila cocktails, fried chicken sliders, grilled cheese and steak tartare.
The highlight of the evening was an intimate performance from RCA Records artist H.E.R. who channeled her inner Prince, riffing on guitar and soulfully serenading the crowd with fan favorites like “Best Part” and “Focus.” Dressed in all-white and rocking UGG’s Neutra Sneaker in Coconut Milk, California-born H.E.R. (real name Gabi Wilson) spent last year on tour headlining seventeen dates in North America and shows with “Could’ve Been” collaborator Bryson Tiller (and Grammy-nominated artist/producer Metro Boomin). One of the most exciting young artists we’ve seen live in 2018, be sure to keep a close eye on this intriguing 21-year-old enigma who will be starring in the brand’s Autumn/Winter 2019 campaign.
Connecting this next generation of UGG to the company’s history, this celebration commemorated the launch of their global anniversary campaign “UGG: 40 Years” photographed by visual artist Erik Madigan Heck and starring Aboa (dressed in Zimmerman) and Preston (dropping his own original UGG collection at his January runway show in Paris). Founded in California in 1978 by Australian Brian Smith, the popular sheepskin boots have become a classic fashion must-have loved by millennial favorites Kendall & Kylie Jenner, Gigi Hadid and designer Jeremy Scott (collaborated on a 2017 capsule collection with the brand). But why are A-Listers like Beyonce, Rihanna, Jennifer Lopez, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kate Moss and Natalie Portman still loyal to their UGGs? “From free-spirited surfers to provocative fashion designers and California creatives, UGG has embraced bold, unapologetic individuality for 40 years. What the UGG brand stands for is more important than ever and this year we celebrate who we are now and look onward with excitement to the next 40 years,” explained Andrea O’Donnell, President of Fashion Lifestyle Brands for parent company Deckers.
Timelessly comfortable, these iconic unisex boots first hit mass exposure on the feet of the 1994 US Winter Olympic Team at the opening ceremony and later featured by Oprah on her list of Favorite Things in 2000. Today the brand has annual sales exceeding more than $1 billion globally and with colder temperatures and cuddle season approaching, now is the perfect time to slip those hardworking feet into a cozy pair of UGGs for your next Smokeflix session or Bumble date.
