On July 12th, ESPN hosted the official BODY at The ESPYS pre-party at the Avalon Hollywood to celebrate the 8th annual “Body Issue,” in conjunction with The 2016 ESPYS. The “Body Issue” is a celebration and exploration of the athletic form and honors athletes of diverse shapes, sizes, genders and races within the boundaries of taste and frontiers of creativity upon which ESPN The Magazine and ESPN have built their reputations.
Gabrielle Union showed up looking stunning and supported her husband Dwyane Wade, who is featured in this year’s “Body Issue,” and posed for funny photos with his nude cover. Rosario Dawson slipped into the Avalon late to mingle with some of her favorite athletes, and brought her mom along as her date. The Black Eyed Peas had a mini reunion, with Taboo and apl.de.ap reuniting with Will.i.am. Chris Mosier, the first transgender athlete included in ESPN’s “Body Issue,” cracked a huge smile when he saw his layout in the print issue on the red carpet for the first time. Legendary broadcaster Craig Sager, who will be honored with the Jimmy V Award For Perseverance at The 2016 ESPYS, was spotted giving a reporter on the red carpet the colorful blazer off his back for a quick try. The evening also featured a special performance by Bell Biv Devoe and music by DJ Tendaji.
ESPN The Magazine’s “Body Issue” is now on stands and features 19 athletes from a variety of sports on eight separate covers.
