Critically acclaimed designer duo Wolk Morais presented their eleventh collection this fall in the form of a short film they directed entitled “RECTO/VERSO”. The kinetic motion picture taps into the designers’ diverse community of models, actors and creatives to perform in a modern adaption of the play “ELLE” by Jean Genet, narrated by Alan Cumming. Inspired by the 1955 French existentialist drama, Wolk Morais’ Collection 11 investigates the play’s timeless theme of image making, reset through the lens of the current culture’s infatuation with social media. The concept of “Recto/Verso” is explored through the collection’s double-sided silhouettes featuring Wolk Morais’ signature laser sharp tailoring and reclaimed textiles.
The film and collection debuted in Hollywood on November 6th at Grandmaster Recorders, formerly the 1920’s Bijou silent movie theater and iconic recording studio. The event marked the label’s first time hosting a film premiere in Los Angeles. Attendees included Chiara Aurelia, George Kotsiopoulos, Heather Marks, Jasmine Daniels, Jordan Huxhold, Katherine McNamara, Mishel Prada, Paris Brosnan, Will Tranfo and more. The event also featured a floral installation from With Abandon by Lindsay Miller and musical ambiance provided by Los Angeles-based DJ, Denise Love Hewett.
