When is the last time that a french fashion house debuted their collection in Los Angeles, especially in the midst of New York Fashion Week? Never, until last night when Saint Laurent took over the Hollywood Palladium for an exquisite runaway show of their Men’s FW16 Collection. The show was brought to us by the man who has rebranded this iconic label, Hedi Slimane.
At first, people were hesitant on Hedi taking over Yves Saint Laurent, since he made some major changes like dropping the “Yves” and moving the brand to Los Angeles. If you look at the numbers, this is the revamp that YSL needed to stay current with our times. Hedi said in a rare interview with Yahoo Style “The city of Los Angeles was for me a perfect observatory of popular culture and inspiring sub-cultures.” He goes on to say that this location and its sub-cultures is being recognized by the fashion industry. The Saint Laurent Men’s FW16 Collection titled “A Tribute to Los Angeles Music Scene” took back the glamorous Rock’n’Roll era, where it almost felt as a tribute to David Bowie of sorts. Lots of leather, velvet, the classic YSL black, skinny jeans, gold and animal prints were seen on the runaway. Some true rockstars showed up for the event including Lady Gaga, Lenny Kravitz and Justin Bieber. The After Party followed with a concert with opener Beck, following with Father John Misty, Joan Jett, Allah-Las, The Sloths, Cherry Glazer, Curtis Harding, No Parents, Bleached, Kim and the Created and Mystic Braves. There’s a new style around town, better hop on board.
