The Broad Museum Celebrated Opening with Black Tie Dinner

A new piece of history has been added to Los Angeles’s grounds. The Broad Museum located in Downtown Los Angeles is a new contemporary art museum brought to you by billionaire philanthropist Eli Broad and his wife Edythe. To celebrate the inauguration before it officially opens this Sunday (September 20th) to the public, founders Eli and Edyth Broad held a classy private black tie affair for 800 guests at the new property with Mayor Eric Garcetti and some A-list celebs including Owen Wilson, Gwyneth Paltrow and Tobey Maguire.

The Broad will be home to 2,000 works of art in the Broad collection, which is among the most prominent holdings of postwar and contemporary art worldwide. Designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro in collaboration with Gensler, the 120,000-square-foot, $140-million building, is an artwork in itself with its honeycomb-like exterior and column-free exhibition space on the third floor. The Museum will feature two floors of gallery space to showcase The Broad’s comprehensive collection and will be the headquarters of The Broad Art Foundation’s worldwide lending library.
