Mikky Ekko the Louisiana bred powerhouse vocalist and songwriter packed the Sonos Studio for an intimate live performance on Thursday, April 2. In conjunction with Pandora, Sonos Studio provided an acoustically divine space for Mikky Ekko fans to experience songs from his debut album Time, out now on RCA Records. Best known for his 2013 breakout feature on Rihanna’s Stay, Mikky Ekko showcased his southern soul belting out crisp melodies backed by a full live band.
Dim purple and blue spotlights highlighted Mikky Ekko’s signature low cut springy curls as a room full of Los Angelenos huddled close to the front of the stage. He performed a slew of standout tracks from the album including Smile, Watch Me Rise, Riot, and Mourning Doves. His energy on stage was bold enough to pull you into the rhythmic truth of his lyrics–”time doesn’t love you anymore, we’re too young to recognize that nothing stays the same.”
To close out the evening, he confidently announced “I was told not to do this one, I’m gonna do it anyway.” The guitar strings riffed an instantly recognizable tune sparking gleeful cheers from the audience. Performing Stay he wrapped up thanking everyone for coming out to enjoy and support his music. Although he has already racked up over two million spins on Pandora, it’s safe to say after this performance Mikky Ekko can expect a jolt in downloads and streams of his debut album Time.
