Enchanted: Forest of Light Returns to a Spectacular Display at Descanso Gardens

For fans of LA holiday lights, Descanso Garden’s Enchanted: Forest of Light will feel just like home. Returning for another year of beautifully immersive lighting displays, the team behind Enchanted has completely outdone themselves with a holiday lighting activity fit for all ages.

The moment you cross the entrance, it feels like stepping into another world as the brightly lit visitor center leaves you behind in turn for moody and colorful lightscapes. As the temperature drops in Los Angeles, you will witness the evaporation from Descanso’s water beds immersing the space in fog, creating an absolutely jaw dropping atmosphere that further enhances the environment.

Ambient and moody audio follows you around and changes depending on which of the many different areas you are enjoying, including the Spectral Sanctuary, or Tom Fruin’s viral Stained Glass Houses. There’s even the Descanso Railroad, a beautiful area with many model trains traversing what feels like a village of differently landscaped tracks, built to carry cars over your head as well as cruise around on ground-level. We were absolutely blown away by how creative and varied the lighting setups – as well as the audio and art used – were throughout the grounds. It even includes interactive elements!

Descanso has pulled out all the stops this year as it comes to food and drink to enjoy while you explore the grounds. You can enjoy hot cocoa or apple cider (with the option to spike for the adults), or drinks from an alcoholic bar. Treats include apple empanadas, apple-cinnamon churros, something called a “croffle” (a croissant cooked in a waffle iron, with the option for additives like chocolate or caramel syrup) as well as plenty more. If you’re in the mood for something more substantial, you can order food from the grill like a burger melt (also available in its Impossible iteration), tomato bisque, french fries and more. It’s a very cozy and welcoming feeling to enjoy the lights with a warm drink – very indicative of the holiday season.

One thing is clear – if you’re looking for photo ops, this is one of the best spots in the city to get them this time of year. On top of that, how often is it that you’re given the opportunity to enjoy Descanso Gardens at night time? We highly recommend this year’s iteration of Enchanted and believe it’s their best year yet.

Tickets and more information are available here. Enchanted: Forest of Light runs on select dates from November 17 – January 5.
