Sourcing Los Angeles Culture

Our 7 Favorite LA Events: The Week Of August 7th-13th featuring Sundance Next Fest and Much More!

Hey, we get it – Los Angeles is a big city. Not only are there endless opportunities for coffee stops, beach visits, and celebrity sightings, but the metropolis also boasts an absolutely massive catalogue of events. Even on a daily basis, the list of things to do can certainly seem a little overwhelming at times.

Somewhere, among the hazy smog that engulfs the city, lies a hotbed of culture and entertainment – you just have to sift through the haze to find what’s best. That’s why we over at LA Guestlist have done the work for you and put together the seven hottest, freshest, and most Los Angeles events we could find for you in the week of August 7th – August 13th. Something for you each and every night.

We’ll try not to break your wallet, either.

  • Nightmare Air W/ Iress, Slugs, & More

Start your week off with a night of live music at The Satellite in LA’s Silver Lake district. Each week, the venue hosts a free show with some of the best rising acts in the music industry. Artists like Fitz & The Tantrums have graced the stage before they hit it big – and you never know who’s next. This week, Nightmare Air graces the stage with help from Slugs, Holy Wars, and more. Doors at 8:30, show at 9.

More information can be found here.

  • Free Day at LACMA

If you’re an LA native, tourist, or somewhere in-between, the Los Angeles Country Museum of Art is an absolute must see. Luckily for you, on the second Tuesday of every month, general admission to the public is absolutely free! While you’re at it, why not catch a $4 matinee? Each Tuesday, the museum screens a classic Hollywood film – making for the perfect fit. This week, it’s Presenting Lily Mars. Tickets can be purchased here.

  • Tim & Eric Awesome Show 10 Year Anniversary

One of the most unpredictable and wild nights you could ask for will undoubtably be held at Tim & Eric’s 10th Anniversary show, held at The Theatre at Ace Hotel. On the second of two nights in LA, the comedy duo (most notably known for their Adult Swim show) can promise an incredibly unique show – and probably some special guests, too.

Tickets can be purchased here.

  • Reservoir Dogs 25th Anniversary Screening Presented on 35mm (W/ Quentin Tarantino)

This Thursday marks a very special night this week as it kicks off Sundance Institute’s Next Fest – LA’s premier weekend-long film festival showcasing the best in new and upcoming director talent, as well as performances from live acts, parties, live talks and more! On opening night, Quentin Tarantino will be honored with a presentation of the Vanguard Leadership Award, coupled with a special 35mm screening of Reservoir Dogs, all followed by a party after dark!

Other activities and amenities will be there as well, including live music, fire dancers, and more. Drinks, smoothies, and a vegan buffet will be provided as well.

We just wanted to give a little extra love over to our friends at the Sundance Institute, as they have put together a very special weekend of programming with their Next Fest. If you’re unable to make it out to their flagship festival in January over in Utah, if you’re just looking for what’s “next” in the film industry, or even if you’re just looking for a good time this weekend, this is definitely what to look out for. Featuring live musical acts paired with screenings including Sleigh BellsElectric Guest, and much more, the folks over at the Sundance Institute boasts one of the best and most unique film festivals LA has to offer. Catch a live talk, stop by their Next Door lounge (featuring VR, wine tastings, carnival games, and more), or see some of the best in upcoming, independent cinema! Attendees can access with their tickets before or after screenings to mingle and enjoy drinks from Hochstadter’s, Stella Artois and wineries from the Santa Ynez Valley, samples from Califia Farms, experience an Acura NSX Virtual Reality test drive, participate in games from Allbirds and get your questions answered at the Los Angeles Times Ask a Reporter booth.

You can explore the lineup, as well as purchase tickets (still available!) here.
