YouTuber Kira Shannon’s social media content and her travels go hand in hand. While she’s most famous for her viral try-on hauls, full of fashionable takes on her favorite styles, there’s another side to the influencer — a side that has created an even tighter bond between Shannon and her content career.

In a new interview with Ruthless Media, the YouTuber opened up about how travel content has shifted into one of the projects she’s chosen to share with her 1+ million online followers, as well as what it takes to create exactly what her fans want to see. “Before a trip, I will make a list of all the places I think would be a good shot for Instagram or Youtube and then plan my outfits accordingly,” she shared.

The intentional planner continued, “I try to only pack pieces I can re-use with multiple outfits and travel as light as possible. This kind of preparation may seem extensive, but taking decisions and guesswork out of my way when I’m on a trip gives me more time to shoot and enjoy wherever I am.” Although she’s traveled to many places, including Costa Rica, Portugal, Poland and more, Shannon said she only films content when she feels “driven” to do so.

Nevertheless, her travels, which Shannon refers to as “solo trips” due to the nature of her visiting each location on her own accord, is the driving force for her YouTube career, as she wouldn’t be able to fund her cultural excursions without her followers making her videos go so viral. When she reaches her destinations, Shannon said she makes sure to “capture as much as I can for social media and also take some time to enjoy the sights off camera.”

When in group tours, she shared that her film-time decreases because she doesn’t “want to hold the group up,” adding that sometimes, other “people may not want to be filmed” even if the focus isn’t on them. Shannon additionally stressed the importance of respecting the culture, locals, and other tourists when traveling.

When “the time is right,” the YouTuber dished that her social media followers will see even more behind the scenes footage and remarkable moments from her travels. For now, though, she’s organizing her next slew of trips, which will likely include locations like Panama, El Salvador, Africa Belize, Nicaragua and Honduras. It’s safe to say, her fans will want to stay tuned for what’s next from the YouTuber!
