How to Prepare for a Month-Long Stay in LA

With the holiday season just around the corner, many people are preparing for travel. Some are planning long overdue family vacations to see other friends and family. Of course, some people still have to travel for work. If you plan on making the journey to Los Angeles, CA, for any of these reasons, here are some things you should bear in mind for a month-long stay.

Look for a Place With Good Reviews

LA is huge with plenty of options in terms of accommodation. You may want to rent an apartment or home on Airbnb. Maybe you prefer a hotel deal on booking.com. More people also decide to save money by way of house sitting. Whatever type of abode you choose, check reviews to ensure things such as plumbing, AC, nearby amenities, and safety are on point. Have the contact information for services that you may need. If you have an issue with your rental home’s water heater or notice a leak, California has the highest number of plumbers, according to Statista.

Rent a Car

There’s a classic 80s song, “No One Walks in LA”. While you can walk or take public transportation in Los Angeles, it’s not as walkable of an area as a place like New York City or San Francisco. There are buses and subway trains in Los Angeles, but once again, they’re not nearly as connected as in most urban cities like Philadelphia, Boston, NY, and Chicago. So, if you plan on being in Los Angeles for a month and want to get around without any restrictions, it’s best to plan on renting a car. If you don’t prefer to drive, you can burn calories with a bike rental or have your Uber app on hand.

Check for Parking Space

Just because everyone drives in LA doesn’t mean reliable parking will be available. Before you pick your rental or hotel, check that you have convenient parking in the facility or nearby. Over 90% of the parking areas are surfaced with asphalt pavement. If you have to pay for parking, see if it can fit into your budget for a month.

Check Your Insurance Coverage

Travel can be a fun time for anyone, especially when hanging out with friends and family. Even if you’re going on a business trip, you should also be able to enjoy yourself. With that being said, it doesn’t mean that you can’t get sick or get into an accident. So make sure that you have adequate insurance that can satisfy your travel needs. According to the National Flooring Safety Institute (NFSI), every year, slip and fall accidents account for about 1 million emergency room visits in the United States.

Research Your LA Neighborhood

Before you travel to Los Angeles, are you sure you’re staying in Los Angeles? The city can be confusing to navigate as it’s very spread out, and unclear regarding what neighborhoods are truly a part of LA County vs their separate city. For example, the Rose Bowl takes place in Pasadena, which is a separate city. The same can be said for Burbank, known for its abundance of TV studios.

Bring Appropriate Clothing

Most of the country is dealing with cool to cold weather as fall turns into winter. If you plan to visit Los Angeles during this time, leave the winter coats and earmuffs at home. One of the reasons why some people flock to the city is for its year-round sunny weather. So, if you want a sunny Christmas over a white one, a month in Los Angeles in December is the perfect solution.

Have fun planning a trip to LA. Maybe you’ll see some celebrities or enjoy a TV taping. Just make sure you can get around, have a comfortable home, and know the boundaries where the city begins and ends.
