Open – designLAb celebrates the PDC’s 40th year with a site-specific commissioned installation in the Blue Lobby that considers the history of Cesar Pelli/Gruen Associates’ groundbreaking design for the Pacific Design Center. The installation, by 2J, New York/LA-based sculptor Justin Beal and painter Jesse Willenbring, blurs the distinctions between art and design as well as the building’s function within the daily commerce of design. Two other Lobby exhibits refer to the aesthetics of the Pacific Design Center as an iconic urban presence: an installation by Won Ju Lim and Kenny Scharf’s Daisymobile (1975/2014), a Pontiac automobile the artist re-interpreted in terms of his iconic exuberant style. Cocktails and food at Red Seven, located on the 1st Floor of the Green Building will be open during the reception.
