Things to Consider Before Buying a TV for Your Kitchen

You might be happy with your current home setup as is but feel like you can always add more to make your home even more comfortable. One idea you might have stumbled upon is adding another TV to increase the amount of entertainment value you can get from this important room, or you might be considering downsizing and moving a TV to the kitchen to replace it.

The kitchen is a surprisingly great place to put a TV because it adds a new level of versatility. You can watch cooking shows, listen to music, or watch your favorite programs all while doing your daily tasks. Adding a TV to your kitchen is a smart move, but here are some things to consider before you buy one.

Size

First and foremost is the size restrictions that may be imposed on your buying choices. TVs in the kitchen are smaller in size to save space, even though they’ve gotten more efficient, they’re still not that large. This is both a good and a bad thing for some. On one hand, it makes it more versatile to place against a backsplash or mount somewhere, but on the other hand, the screen could be smaller than you’re used to. Always consider how much counter space or wall space you can use to place a TV in your kitchen.

Cost

As with every type of electronic, you want to know how much this is going to cost you, and luckily it sometimes won’t be too much of a burden. As the technology for TV manufacturing becomes easier to make and easier to process, they become cheaper. You’ll still expect to pay a few hundred, but that’s about par for the course when looking for a TV, even smaller ones. Still, it’s good to set a budget. If you’re planning on spending $500 or more, then you should be looking at a full-sized TV, but you’ll be able to find some for cheap quite easily.

Apps

Smart TVs are the way of the future because people need their devices to be multifunctional, and you want your kitchen TV to act the same. If you need a kitchen TV to act as a media center, then you want apps. Things like Netflix, Spotify, Youtube, etc. should all be basic smart TV apps to look for if you want a kitchen TV. Some even have web browsers if you really need added functionality.

Other Features

Besides apps, you want as many features as possible to get the most from your purchase. Bluetooth connectivity, multiple USB/HDMI ports, mountable frame, etc. are things that should be compulsory while searching for a TV that will be a good fit for your kitchen. These features allow your TV to operate as a truly universal device that will add a ton of value to this room of the home. Not every TV comes with robust features, but if you find a smart TV, it should have these at the very least.

Brand

The brand of TV you buy isn’t going to be a major issue unless you really are brand loyal or have had success with previous device brands. The major TV brands are LG, Samsung, Sony, TCL, Vizio, and Hisense. These are going to be the ones you will likely see in stores and online. Most of them are quite trusted, but it sometimes comes down to opinion, but always read reviews on products because even the most trusted brands can end up making bad products sometimes. It always helps to ensure that the brand you’re picking has good customer service, warranty coverage, and a good track record.

Screen Type

Finally, the screen type is something to consider when shopping for a TV for the kitchen. There are a few major types of screens and they are, LED, LCD, QLED, OLED, and Plasma. The first four are the most common as they are able to produce the best quality images compared to the older plasma type TVs. QLED and OLED are much more expensive because they are top of the line in terms of image quality, so it might be harder to find a smaller kitchen-sized TV, but it’s doable. Your best bet is to find an LED/LCD screen that will provide a good mix of cost, quality, and size.

Putting a TV in your kitchen was the height of luxury just 20 short years ago, but has become a much more common practice as TVs have gotten lighter and cheaper. If you’re looking to add one to your kitchen, those considerations are important for making the right choice.
