“Save Water, Throw Cake” at LAOKI For The City Of Los Angeles

Let’s put aside the lawsuit against Steve Aoki from his wild show antics and regroup our attention on the kickass free show that he threw this Saturday, May 19th, 2015 for our city of Los Angeles. In conjunction with the release of his new album, Neon Future II, Steve teamed up with Mayor Garcetti for this massive concert ranging over two blocks in Downtown Los Angeles. Steve mostly dug into his own funds to produce LAOKI. Thousands of concertgoers attended the show for free by signing up for the Mayors Volunteer Corps where you are to commit to a minimum of three volunteer days a year in service to the city of Los Angeles.

Before Steve Aoki took the stage, a short video of Mayor Garcetti appeared with valuable information on The Mayors Volunteer Corps and his efforts with “Save The Drop LA“. Then came time for the man of the hour, Steve Aoki, which created a frenzy in the crowd. We’ve been to some hectic concerts in the past, and this one was definitely up there. Steve played lots of high bpm (beats per minute) songs from his new album and brought out singer Moxoki for “I Love It When You Cry”. Halfway through the show, Steve asked the crowd to hold their phone’s flash up in the air and wave it back and forth, to create an amazing picture moment.

The cake part that we’ve heard so much about finally arrived. We still can’t believe that it is a real thing. He threw cake at the audience, including us, which was fun for the time being, until it was time to get inside of an Uber covered in cake. The cake itself was delicious if you were wondering. Model Shaun Ross got on stage to get caked in front of all of us, that were already covered in cake. The highlight of the evening was when Travis Barker played drums onstage for Steve Aoki’s “Pursuit of Happiness” remix. That reminded us that Steve Aoki concerts are a Project X experience where kids just want to get rowdy. Well, we got rowdy alright, for a good cause to support this amazing city that we call Los Angeles.
