When you visit Los Angeles, you might not be clear on where to go if you fancy a game of blackjack. Most places will say ‘gaming’ on them, rather than ‘gambling’, and it is worth knowing that California gambling laws limit casinos to card games only. There are some great places to visit that have had major renovations in recent years and provide an unforgettable experience.
The Bicycle Hotel and Casino
Originally a card room opened in 1984, The Bicycle Hotel and Casino was expanded in 2015 and now includes a seven-story hotel. Located in Southeast Cities, this place feels like Las Vegas, with VIP card rooms with glamorous white chairs and blue lights. The original card room still exists and has over 200 tables where you can play blackjack, develop your own strategy and maybe even get involved in a few rounds of WSOP tournament, which the casino hosted back in 2018.
Located in the Commerce suburb of LA, Commerce Casino is the largest card room in the world. The casino has over 240 tables and is attached to a 200-room Crowne Plaza hotel. One of the best features of the casino is the playboy themed gaming lounge. The casino also features several restaurants and hosts live boxing. It might not be Vegas, but the Commerce Casino certainly feels the closest in terms of extravagance. So much so that it is very common to see all sorts of celebrities enjoying blackjack as well as other games.
Hollywood Park Casino
Built on the site of a former racetrack, this casino in Inglewood has recently been renovated and is a fantastic place to head to for blackjack. It features huge HD televisions, chandeliers and over 150 tables. There is also a private area for high stake players. After you’ve played a few games, head to the Century Bar & Grill sports bar.
The Gardens Casino
This card room was originally inside a tent. The Gardens Casino is located in Hawaiian Gardens and was expanded almost four times its size in 2016 after a $90m renovation. The casino was featured on the TV show Poker Night in America. You can play here with over 200 tables available and relax at the bar or in the VIP lounge.
Larry Flynt’s Hustler Casino, located in Gardena, brands itself as LA’s only luxury casino. The casino, which is open 24 hours a day, features high roller tables and over 30 tables that are dedicated to blackjack. The interiors are stunning, with Monte Carlo décor and amazing chandeliers that will really impress you. If you want something to eat, be sure to go to Larry Flynt’s Bar and Grill inside the casino after you’ve had a few games.
LA has really stepped up in recent years, and these five casinos are essential for any fan of blackjack visiting the city. It is clear that the casinos are improving and becoming more spectacular, and definitely wouldn’t look out of place if they were on the strip in Las Vegas or Atlantic City.
