LA’s Hottest Casinos and Resorts

Home to Venice Beach, Legoland, and Tinseltown itself, Los Angeles is one of the most visited destinations in the whole of the USA. Entertainment is at the very heart of the City of Angels, so it shouldn’t come as any surprise to learn that some of the country’s best and largest casinos can be found here amongst the film studios and amusement parks.

The Casino Landscape in LA

Historically, LA and California hadn’t played the major role that Vegas and New Jersey had in the development of the casino industry in the country, but the gaming scene here in 2020 is rich and diverse. Casinos in LA fall under one of two categories:

1. Cardrooms – which offer the classic game of poker, as well as plenty of other exciting card game variations.

2. Tribal Casinos – which offer card games, bingo, and sports betting opportunities. These venues and resorts are owned and operated by the Native American tribes of California and play an important economic and financial role in the region.

Although each venue sets its own rules, dress codes, and casino etiquette, the main criteria that unite them all is that in order to play any of the games or lay down wagers, customers have to be over the age of 21.

The Hottest LA Casinos

The Commerce Club – Just south of LA lies the Commerce Club and Casino. It may not be as mainstream as Sin City’s Bellagio or Caesar’s Palace, but the Commerce is actually home to the biggest poker room in the world – it’s larger than any other room found in the casinos of Monte Carlo, Macau, London, and Vegas herself. As you might expect, with 240 different poker and card game tables under its roof, it’s one of the top gaming destinations for poker pros and high rollers.

Outside the gaming floor, you’ll find luxurious Crowne Plaza accommodation, an indulgent day spa, and a variety of dining and drinking facilities.

The Hollywood Park Casino – Originally home to a horse racing track dating back to the 1930s, since major revelations carried out in 2013 the Hollywood Park has operated as a casino resort. For general customers and tourists, the Hollywood Park offers 125 different card and California-sanctioned games to play including Omaha Hold’em and Three-Card Mexican Poker, and there’s even a separate gaming area for high stakes poker players.

The Pechanga Resort Casino – Set amidst the stunning Pechanga Indian Reservation, this casino’s gaming floor is sprawled across a massive 200,000 square feet. Easily the highest-rated tribal casino in the region – it was awarded the Best Casino Resort by the Southern California Gaming Guide in 2019. The Pechanga is one of the few casinos to offer slot machines (a total of 4,500), as well as traditional card games, high-limit games, bingo, and even off-track horse racing betting.

The resort also features a deluxe hotel – the suites overlooking the reservation are a dream – as well as over a dozen dining options, a full fitness center and luxury spa, a rooftop nightclub, and even live performance venues featuring year-round entertainment.

The Hustler Casino – Named after publishing magnate Larry Flynt’s magazine, Hustler, is a casino that retains a certain kitsch appeal. After all, only in LA could you play poker in such a venue! One of two casinos owned by Flynt in California, It’s a relatively modest one compared to some of the other resorts mentioned on this list, but nevertheless, it’s a favorite among poker players and gamers in the know.

Poker and Blackjack are on offer here, as well as seasonal professional tournaments. According to Card Player Magazine, the Hustler has even hosted “the biggest seven-card stud game in the world”.

San Manuel Bingo and Casino – If card games don’t tickle your fancy, the San Manuel should be right up your street. Located just outside LA in Highland, there are no table games to be found here. Instead, there are over 4000 video slots and poker machines to play, as well as the titular Bingo (it really is a big deal in California), as well as a number of themed lounges and bars to soak up the buzzing atmosphere in, and first-class entertainment facilities. With all of these attractions, you’re definitely in for an exciting weekend.
