LACMA 2015 Art+Film Gala Honored James Turrell and Alejandro G Iñárritu presented By Gucci

Any event that takes place at the LACMA is always magnificent to say the least. On Saturday, November 7, notables from the art, film, fashion, and entertainment industries united at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) to honor artist James Turrell and filmmaker Alejandro G. Iñárritu. Some say that Drake was inspired by James Turrells work on display at the LACMA for his highly publicized Hot Line Bling video. Alejandro G. Iñárritu went on to win ‘Best Picture’ and ‘Best Director’ at the 2015 Academy Awards for Birdman. In its fifth year, the 2015 Art+Film Gala is co-chaired by LACMA trustee Eva Chow and actor Leonardo DiCaprio, who both continue to champion LACMA’s film initiatives. Attendees got to enjoy an inspiring performance by British singer Sam Smith.

Proceeds from the gala will were used to support LACMA’s initiative to make film more central to the museum’s curatorial programming while also funding LACMA’s broader mission. This includes a robust film program led by Film Independent at LACMA curator Elvis Mitchell, as well as exhibitions, acquisitions, educational programming, and screenings that explore the intersection of art and film. Champagne for the evening is generously provided by Laurent-Perrier and specialty tequila cocktails provided by Casamigos Tequila.

Some notable attendees included: Art+Film Gala Co-chairs Eva Chow and Leonardo DiCaprio, honorees Alejandro G. Iñárritu and James Turrell, Gucci Creative Director Alessandro Michele as Gala Host Committee Chair, and Gucci President and CEO Marco Bizzarri. Guests include Doug Aitken, John Baldessari, T Bone Burnett, Naomi Campbell, Asia Chow, China Chow, Gia Coppola, Thomas Demand, Urs Fischer & Tara Subkoff, Los Angeles County Supervisor Sheila Kuehl, Mayor Eric Garcetti, Jacqui Getty, Mark Grotjahn & Jennifer Guidi, Luca Guadagnino, Francois-Henri & Salma Hayek Pinault, Thomas Houseago, Rosie Huntington Whiteley, Alex Israel, Dakota Johnson, Kim Kardashian West, Barbara Kruger, Diane Kruger & Joshua Jackson, Mia Maestro, Brit Marling & Zal Batmanglij, Catherine Opie, and Gwyneth Paltrow.
