John R Hamilton is a renowned photographer, known for his snaps of celebrities such as Clint Eastwood and John Wayne. Hamilton, who passed exactly 18 years ago, began his career as a magazine photographer and segued into movie and celebrity photography in 1956, shooting on the set of the John Ford classic western The Searchers, which starred Wayne. Hamilton continued taking photographs on the sets of some 77 films, including many of Wayne’s best known movies.
The Hamilton archive was recently acquired by John Wayne Enterprises and the EDA Collections and is now displayed at the Morrison Hotel Gallery, including some never before seen pictures. 10% of the proceeds from the Hollywood Cool exhibit benefit the John Wayne Cancer Foundation.
This private exhibition was a special way to celebrate John R Hamilton’s legacy, by reviving some of his work that has never been seen by the public. His whole family (seen in picture above) was in attendance, and sweet as ever. John Wayne’s son, Ethan Wayne (seen in picture above), also showed his support. He contributed his Duke Bourbon to the open bar at the event. Other attendees such as Danny DeVito were present. John R Hamilton: Hollywood Cool is a celebration of his life through his photography.
