Interview: Top Chef Richard Blais Naked Cold Pressed Juice Ambassador

In honor of Naked Juice’s new venture into Cold Pressed Juices, we sat down with Richard Blais from Top Chef, who is their new brand ambassador. With its longstanding commitment to high-quality ingredients, Naked leveraged its expertise to create five new veggie-forward cold pressed juices made with the simplest ingredients: Bright Greens, Hearty Greens, Bold Beet, Lively Carrot and Cool Pineapple. Chef has partnered with Naked Juice to launch its brand new cold-pressed juices – available only on the West Coast, but coming soon nationwide.

1. How were you involved in this project?

It started with Kale ‘Blazer’ that they released last year, and I think subconsciously they were thinking of Richard ‘Blais’, so when when we got together it was just a natural thing. Naked Juice only uses the best ingredients and I use the best ingredients as a Chef. They take these amazing natural products and use them in innovative ways. It also was a good collaboration because I am a big fitness buff now, so I drink these juices on a daily basis.

2. How did Naked manage to pull this off, low calorie, lots of healthy things, best ingredients?

My question is how they can balance these flavors with such expertise because I have been drinking these juices for a long time. Every time I take a sip, I am thinking as a Chef that they had to add some sugar into these, but the reality is that there is no added sugars in the juices.

3. Why do you think Naked added flavors such as Vanilla and Spearmint that you wouldn’t usually see in a pressed juice?

One of the things that’s great about vanilla, is that you would usually associate it with a desert, when you add vanilla to a savory ingredient, it gives you a perception of sweetness and adds some sort of mystery.

4. The Juice is great for anyone of all ages, How are your kids responding to the Naked Cold Pressed Juice?

I have two kids, and one is a little pickier than the other. With these, especially when it comes to the green ones, kids sometimes when it comes to green things because it can have a polarizing flavor. We have not had any failures with these juices, and they actually prefer the green ones. I am pretty proud of that actually.

5. Which is your favorite Naked Cold Pressed Juice?

I go through different phases. I have always had a love affair with beet juice, it is visually appealing. This is the one that I am actually drinking as we speak. Beets use to be our main source of sugar a long time ago in the olden days.

6. What are some quintessential California Ingredients?

It’s hard not to think of avocados and almonds when we are thinking about California Specifically. Since we have such great climate, the produce here are unbeatable. When I first moved to California, I had a romaine salad and I was struck about how good the lettuce was.
