Festival fashion, live music performances, food trucks, and merchandise stands—one can presume that all these elements would encapsulate a music festival of some sort. But instead, on Wednesday, February 8th, three thousand people flocked to Venice Beach, California to attend the most talked about LA fashion event of the season: Tommy Hilfiger’s Spring 2017 Fashion show. For his spring collection, the American designer moved his runway show from New York City to Los Angeles. Previously transformed NYC’s Pier 16 into a carnival fair called “Tommy Pier” for the fall 2016 collection, Hilfiger’s fashion guests were expecting no less for the West Coast show. Arriving at the show, a giant sign reads “TommyLand” was perched high above the gates of the Venice Beach boardwalk to welcome the attendees.

Set promptly at 5 PM, the collection was shown 30 minutes late due to the arrival of celebrity guests trickling in one by one. Actors, musicians, influencers and industry heavy weights all came for the show. The biggest coup of the night was an appearance by Lady Gaga in the front row. The outfit was a Tommy x Gigi design shown along with Hilfiger’s own collection. Hadid’s model younger sister, Bella followed suit wearing a yellow-cropped polo and multicolored patchwork mini skirt. The clothes incorporated Americana esthetic with western and west coast vibes. Knee length denim coats, fringe denim mini skirts, patchwork silk maxi dresses, American flag inspired stars and stripes t-shirts adorned the models bodies as they strutted in the tune of Tupac’s California Love. The “See Now Buy Now” collection was immediately available for purchased after the show in merchandise tents surrounding the runway. “The inspiration of the show was Southern California, “ Hilfiger shared in an interview with L.A. In addition, working the It model, Gigi Hadid the second time around “gets better with age.” For the must haves pieces in the collection, Hilfiger said, “you need the jean shorts, the bomber jackets, the long patchwork dresses and the patched denim.” Hilfiger’s wife, Dee Ocleppo Hilfigger was ecstatic to have the show in California. “I’m so excited. We love LA and we have three of our children live out here so it was so much fun, ” Hilfiger’s wife said.
