Host George Clooney opened the show with a warm and charming welcome to the audience, teasing, “the good thing is, I’m not singing tonight. I’m hosting.” Michael Douglas then came on stage to deliver a heartfelt dedication to his father, Kirk, who was watching in the audience. After sharing stories from throughout Kirk’s lifelong career, Michael was joined by the crowd in singing “Happy Birthday” to his dad, who turns 100 this December.

The evening also featured some more sentimental moments, including personal stories from the MPTF residents delivered by film and television stars Jeremy Renner and Matt Bomer. Bryan Cranston and Chris Pine shared the stage to recount their familial connections to the MPTF campus, Cranston’s mother and Pine’s grandmother were both residents who benefitted from the services of the facility and support and compassion of its caretakers.
